New Zealand Women, after a seven-wicket victory over England Women on Sunday (February 28), have finally set the team free of a long winless streak of eleven ODI matches that included the defeats in the first two ODIs of the 3-match series.

Left-handed top-order batsman Amy Satterthwaite hit her seventh ODI hundred, an unbeaten 119, and also completed 4000 runs in the format along the way of her match-winning century. Satterthwaite, after Suzie Bates and Debbie Hockley, is only the third New Zealand batsman to achieve this feat.

The 20-year-old Amelia Kerr, after her 4/42 in England’s innings (220 all out), produced an unbeaten 72 in her terrific all-round performance. Together vice-captain Satterthwaite and Kerr, the left-right hand combination, formed an unbeaten 172-run partnership to help the hosts end their inauspicious streak of 11 consecutive defeats in the 5-over format.

After having won the toss, England captain Heather Knight (60) chose to bat first and the skipper formed a hundred-partnership with opener Tammy Beaumont (88*). The 29-year-old opening batsman remained unbeaten throughout England’s innings and carried her bat at the end with the visitors putting up 220 on the board.

Besides Amelia Kerr’s 4/42, captain Sophie Devine and Jess Kerr bagged two wickets each as the visitors were restricted to a total of 220 after a great start for them. England Women have, however, won the 3-match ODI series by a margin of 2-1 and the two teams will now step into a three-match T20I series starting on March 3.
