'Muslims benefitting more in Uttar Pradesh’: Telangana BJP leader counters Owaisi’s attack on Yogi

Telangana BJP leader NV Subhash on Wednesday hit back at All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi for taking a dig at Uttar Pradesh government. Subhash said Muslims were getting more benefits in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh than states where non-BJP parties were in power.

Subhash claimed that Owaisi was trying to get mileage by criticising Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He was responding to Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad Asaduddin Owaisi’s charge that the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government had done nothing for the uplift of Muslims in the state.

"Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly announced that every third beneficiary of the government schemes in his state was from Muslim community, and the BJP government follows the policy of non-discrimination against anyone in the state,” Subhash said.

“The AIMIM leader should check as the Muslims were benefiting more in UP than the non-BJP ruled states in the country," he said.

This came after a series of tweets put out by Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday attacking the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh, which goes to the polls early next year.

Owaisi said, "Rural Uttar Pradesh has a deficit of 13,944 sub-centres, 2,936 Primary Health Centres (PHC) and 53 per cent of Community Health Centre (CHC). According to the Central government, Baba-Raj has the least number of doctors in Primary Health Centres of UP. The posts of 2,277 doctors are lying vacant.”

“Had the work been done, there would have been no need to shout Abba, Abba," said Owaisi referring to CM Yogi’s remark made recently at a public event accusing the previous government led by the Samajwadi Party of Muslim appeasement.

Owaisi claimed the literacy rate of the Muslims in Uttar Pradesh was the lowest while the dropout rate of Muslim children was the highest.

Responding to the charge, Subhash said Owaisi missed the fact that the schools were not holding classes since the outbreak of Covid-19 in India last year and therefore the question of school dropouts would not arise.

Subhash said the BJP government followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s principle of governance, "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas". He dismissed Owaisi's claim that only 10 Muslims were allotted houses in 2017-18 in Uttar Pradesh. Subhash said that 30 to 35 per cent houses were allotted to Muslims in the state.

"Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Rural (PMAY-G), 30-35 per cent houses have been allotted to Muslims in the state. Owaisi’s claim of 10 houses being allotted to Muslims in 2017-18 is wrong," he said.

The BJP leader said that Asaduddin Owaisi was making wild allegations against the UP government to draw attention of the Muslim minorities.

“Owaisi is making wild allegations to draw attention of the Muslim minorities and also there is no discrimination against Muslims in allotting gas cylinders and ration cards in all Central government schemes,” Subhash said.
